Curb The Quarantine 15

Ok - say it with me y’all, “THE SNACKING HAS TO STOP!” Don’t we realize that once quarantine season is over, its going to be beach season (hopefully). I don’t know about you, but the boredom in our house has lead to all time high snacking levels. Enough is enough, if this is the new normal for a while, lets use some strategies to survive the pull of the pantry.

Watch What You Drink

Ok before we tackle the Cheese It’s, lets take a look at what we are drinking. First make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Second, don’t drink your calories - ever. Even if there is a pandemic. No sugary juices, no milkshake lattes, NO SODA (diet is still soda you sneaky fiends). And finally, pay attention to how much alcohol you are drinking. It’s a lot harder to say no to Cheese It’s after a couple beers.

Have A Plan

Go into the day with a plan of what you are going to eat. Meal prepping is one great way to do this, but if that’s not your style even just making a list works. Think of it as your personal menu for the day (or do it the night before). Make sure you list out the “What” you are going to eat along with the “How Much.” Even jotting down what you eat after the fact is a step in the right direction. Keep tweaking and auditing your plan until you are happy with the results.

Have A Safe Food

Something about knowing that we are stuck at home with NOTHING on the calendar for the foreseeable future will break even the strongest will power. So, when its time to give in, have a safe food. Next time you brave the store, pick out something healthy that you enjoy, that you can snack on guilt free. Humus and carrots, a handful of blueberries - my go to right now is those little bell peppers.

Alter Your Schedule

Most of our schedules have gone completely out the window. Working from home means no more commute, staying at home means no more appointments, ect. Take advantage of your new flexibility and adjust your meal schedule accordingly. Here’s an example: move your breakfast an hour later in the day and your dinner a half hour earlier. If you can condense those landmark meals, and commit to not snacking before breakfast and after dinner you will have less holes to fill with Cheese Its.

Good Enough

Finally - give yourself some grace. Perfect is the enemy of good enough, and I think good enough would be pretty darn good right now. Don’t tie yourself into knots trying to be perfect. Its not sustainable, and its not worth it. We are trying to be healthy here people, and your sanity is a piece of that puzzle. So find the balance, and keep it movin!

Love you guys - Stay safe!
